In the urban living environment sadness mainly embosses the picture in many places: unoccupied shops in city outskirts, junk shops in shopping areas, lack of parking spaces, open spaces and recreation areas as well as areas of communication – and the lack of population. Especially in the evening and night times cities appear to be proverbial ‘extinct’. Are the times of the busting, vibrant life in cities gone that attract especially young people? Are the times gone in which cities also are in demand as housing and living space?
Not necessarily – especially since there are numerous examples where cities use their potential with well thought out and sustainable concepts and become attractive as a living space again. Also, the vacancy of inner city districts offer opportunities for municipalities. ILI assists city and project developer, housing societies and property owners as well as groups of interest of retail, hospitality and residential population with innovative concepts to promote an enduring and sustainable development of cities and districts.
Where are in the cities the new concepts for Singles beyond the students flat-sharing? Where are the models for the life of patchwork families and the housing for young at heart but old people? Where are the new mobility and parking space concepts in the cities? Where are the Smart Cities, which could also be interesting and sustainable models for development and positioning of municipalities?
Cities survive of a good mix of young and old, singles and families and their presence in the inner cities. To be attractive for young people, it is important to develop educational, leisure as well as hospitality and shopping offers and to offer augmented small and cheap flats. So that young families do not migrate in the outlying areas of cities, adequate big, affordable flats and an appropriate residential environment in the inner cities should be developed. In addition, inner cities also are in demand at the elderly persons who are part of the urban living again and who also want to use the good medical health structure of the cities. This requires new ideas and well-elaborated concepts that are interdisciplinary and individually developed by ILI – always aligned to the particular situation of cities and the needs of their residents.
Congestion in inner cities, occupied car parks, lack of parking space for residents, inner city transport only for license and city road charge – these are the grey scenarios of the future urban mobility. In fact, already now the transport infrastructures come increasingly to their limits. Therefore, new concepts are needed that link alternative means and ways of transport and the optimal use of the existing also and exactly by means of modern communication technologies.
ILI develops sustainable ideas and concepts for site-specific intermodal traffic in cities. Especially for the short hauls offer numerous forms and instruments. These include car-sharing concepts with electrical vehicles as inherent part of districts, networks for ad hoc lifts and innovative means of transportation such as foldable E-scooters and mopeds as well as new parking space concepts. ILI develops and analyses with its experts also eccentric ideas and concepts for city-mobility, which are equally city friendly and ecology-minded, smart and individually projectable.
Communication and Mediation
Urban development begins in the mind and lives of future images. To develop new ideas, ILI designs and accompanies future formative workshops ‘vision workshops’ and includes people that are involved and groups of interest. These innovative workshops consist of using ‘design-thinking’ and Theory U to solve complex issues and to develop new approaches. They are used to uncover and use interest and future projections effectively. Additionally they help to identify and integrate divergences at an early stage. With our moderating and intermediately supervision, we make every effort to ensure productive and appreciated communication processes in projects.
